honda crv sat nav dvd trouble?

Please can anyone help me with my sat nav on my 2004 honda crv, it says dvd mistake and I accept tried a friends dvd disk in there simply information technology has the same problem. I have tried going to the force download screen but nothing happens and on the diags screen it says everything is ok. Are there anymore reset procedures and also is the unit like shooting fish in a barrel to accept out of dash to inspect. Thanks.

OK so I have done the butter knife lens clean, the have it apart lens clean and attempted to practise a forced download. It starts download process so after a few seconds says error reading disk again. But it isn't the disk as I tried another disk from a working navigation unit in another car. Any ideas?

Cleaned the disc and thin knife and a babe wipe , took me 5 mins and at present all working !

Tried the wipe and ruler trick over and over no joy. So tried the down zoom & menu reboot. Got to the card messed virtually a little, cleared the sram, found the 'Force Download' push button, hitting it something downloaded, few minutes later unit working perfectly. If I wasn't in the auto I would accept done a somersault. Second only to a Euromillions win. Tin now practise everything on the Satnav and stereo. Just bought the 2005 2.two Exec as a banger for the dogs only have fallen in honey with information technology. Good luck to you all.

Seriously people I can kiss you all just at present ha ha. Honda Jazz I have and was giving a dvd read fault. Called up Honda for a replacement disk when they almost gave me a center assault £179!!!! Wtf I thought. Then idea buy deejay head cleaning kit. Didn't make a difference. Started thinking if it was a disk error. At the final moment, chanced upon this thread. Yous stone stars with your butter knife and wet wipes lol. Tried first time didn't work. 2nd fourth dimension something happened. Afterward a delay mistake appeared. That gave me conviction. Switched off the car and cleaned it again gently. And the third time...worked like magic. Love you all the butter knifers n the wet wipers.

Hi tried all the suggestions on this page including dismantle and clean , force download.
Notwithstanding getting error . Did notice in diagnostics I have no satellite signal ,crv is in open space.
on first diagnostic schematic all connections seem fine . Too checked connections ok.
Any suggestions

But done aforce down load press the down pointer on the zoom button whilst holding in the carte push at the same fourth dimension keep pressing next until y'all get to the system s office then press on the different items until force download appears at the bottom press it and everything volition go blank so drive off after nigh 2 mins it started to load up go on driving until it reboots. worked a treat

I used Andy'due south services for my 2004 Honda at the beginning of this week and he was excellent. He arrived the same day and had the unit returned to me quite tardily (later on 9pm) the adjacent evening due to my arriving dwelling belatedly from piece of work. I recommend using him for any issues you might be having with the unit of measurement.

Same problem as nigh with DVD reading disc fault. Tried new disc and tried rebooting system but neither worked.

Have only fastened a flash kitchen wipe to a fiddling ruler and waggled around (carefully) in the DVD slot. Put disc back in and information technology's now working for the kickoff time in two years! Then put in the new disc (from eBay) not genuine Honda disc and it's updated information technology straight away.

Thanks for the solution, the message on the screen was driving me mad!

Thank you to Bartley who described how to clear the SRAM (Dec 2011 beneath).
Deejay loaded faster than before, all I need to do is test it!
If that fails I'll strip it downwards and make clean the lenses...

HI, I live in NZ and have a Japanese inport 2003 Honda Accord Euro. I replaced the battery and the nav needed a reboot. I tried inserting the Honda deejay and I got the check disk error bulletin. I've taken it apart and attempted to make clean the lens but to no avail.

Andy, I guess you are in us just any adventure yous can tell me what you exercise to get this thing back up and running? Information technology likewise controls the air con system and so it's really annoying...

i cleand my lens with a butter knife and a zeis photographic camera lens cloth and it works perfectly. normal costs here in belgium where around 400 euro's simply at present information technology only cost me 0.20 cents haha thanks guys for the tips

Yay!!!
After dismantling the DVD unit of measurement, giving the lens a wipe with a cotton bud and eventually putting it all back together (no screws left over......BONUS) I tried it again. Didn't work. Just about to give upward and I read that you demand to exist away from buildings when starting the unit of measurement back upwards. Did this, and hey presto it worked!!!!

I now have a fully performance, upward to appointment sat nav.

I own a 2006 CR-V II in the Netherlands and equiped it with my 2004 Sat Nav (original Honda Alpine) that I recovered from my first CR-V, a 2003 that went total loss on a tree... Black Water ice with 35 km/h...

It worked well for about iii years until it started with the disc error bulletin when the winter started. I did the mentioned repair and cleaning equally described hither!! Easy complete opening and endmost. Appears that everything is ok but the DVD won't spin up.

Can anyone tell me if there is a sensor that reads that the disk is loaded??

April 2012 - 2006 Honda with the aforementioned trouble every bit everyone else 'DVD error'. Tried the 'butter knife' and 'wet wipes' arroyo. Removed a lot of dirt from the cd lens simply to no avail. Then re-read the comments of others and persisted - carefully! Then realised that the cd lens faces upwards and therefore repeated the cleaning but with a niggling more downwardly pressure level - hey presto. Sorted. Did this a few months agone and been fine e'er since. My proposition - persevere with cleaning but carefully. Information technology probably took exist 4 or 5 attempts before information technology worked. The re-kick instructions offered by others were easy to follow and did the flim-flam. Thanks to all who posted. I almost took the car to a garage!

I have a similar issue. I have purchased a 2011 disc for my 05 CRV only for the 'disc error' message to appear. I have tried the 'moisture wipe and ruler' method still no joy. What confuses me though is that when I put the original disc in it works, and so the laser deceit be that dirty. I have tried the force download, but the screen only goes black and eventually comes back on in the aforementioned state 'disc error'.
Am I doing something incorrect, or does it need a more thorough clean?

Effort a DVD histrion head cleaner disc (the type with small-scale brushes on). I had the same problem but it took quite a few uses of the cleaner to do the trick - the machine stops itself saying there is no disc! So just repeat the cleaning and persevere.
(I comport the cleaning disc in the auto in example the problem recurs).

I have a 2003 CRV. Same problem experienced when the DVD was removed - "DVD Disc Reading Fault". On my car, if you lot press the menu button and zoom down button at the same time, the system diagnostic menue comes upwardly. Subsequently some cocky checks, you lot will come up wit a screen where one of the choice is "clear backup". If yous chose this, a bulletin will appear that this will clear the SRAM (retention) and reset the organization. Press OK and it will ask you for the language - chose UK English and hopefully information technology will then reset your organization. I have done this successfully once.

Yous are all stars!! I idea "what the hell" so cleaned the disc with lens cleaner and stuck a dettol wipe on a pocketknife in the disc slot and jiggled information technology most.Lots of black yuck but it worked first fourth dimension.Vivid!!

I was in serious danger of parting with £300 to have my satnav fixed....tin can't believe my luck that the "windowlene wipe and thin ruler method worked!!! Mine has been out of activeness for 2 years!!
When I wiggled the ruler about I accidently forced it over something..don't know what and idea that I had caused some damage. Also cleaned the DVD disc with the wipe.

I put the disc back in, waited for it to boot up, the dreaded "mistake bulletin" didn't come up up.....then I pressed "map" and it came upwardly!!!!!!!!!! did a brusk road plan..........all ok.

Didn't fifty-fifty take to force the download. Can't believe my luck! Simply hope information technology continues.

Don't waste your money on the DVD cleaner disc...I bought one and it didn't piece of work....£15 wasted.

Please do not insert a knife or any other object into the disc slot.. The lens within is VERY delicate and you could easily crack it, then you volition have to replace the whole unit!!...
The unit needs stripping down professionally.

Same problem re sat nav showing dvd mistake. Tried DVD cleaner and it did not work. Wrapped a glasses lense cleaner round a thin knife and inserted in DVD. Moved information technology effectually a bit and then took it out. Needed to printing DVD eject push to render sabbatum nav DVD. The sat nav fired upwardly straightaway and is now working as information technology should practise. Thanks to all for this tip.

Craigs solution worked for me likewise. No amount of DVD cleaning disks worked. In one case I dismantled it and properly cleaned the lens it's working a treat. Thanks Craig, the process was fabricated very easy following your explanation.

Craig - you are a star. Followed your instructions on taking the unit autonomously, cleaned the laser head with a cotton bud and all works well. Also quick tip - found my disc had quite a few modest scratches (even though it had never been out of the slot). Used a small amount of toothpaste and lightly rubbed in with a cloth. Removed toothpaste, bulk of scratches gone and disk / sat nav first upward in record time.

My '55 Honda CRV saturday.nav problem "DVD reading an error" solved instantly by ownership an Allsop Multimedia Laser Lens Cleaner from PC Globe for £15.99. This is a DVD, CD and Game Consol lens cleaner. It took about 20 seconds to clean the lens, and over a calendar week on, have had no bug. This cleaning should be repeated on a weekly basis.

Bulletin Reading "DVD Mistake" This has happened to me twice now. The first fourth dimension the unit got sent to alpine who fixed it for £350! Today I have simply followed some suggest in this forum Re "force a download by pressing Zoom Down and Menu at the aforementioned time for a few seconds...the screens that appear, just keep selecting NEXT".Eventually the unit of measurement reboots and hey presto it works again! Like many others hither i ejected the DVD to check the version.

After puting information technology back in i got the dredded "Error Reading from Disk" (it was working fine on the way home as i had simply purchased the CRV.

Tried the lens cleaner for 2 Days (No Joy)
Tried a wipe wrapped around a ruler (No Joy)

Somewhen fleck the bullet and removed the unit following the directions in this forum from Craig and Pol101.

Cleaned out a fair fleck of grime using a cotton bud soaked in windowline.

Polished the lens with a couple of clean dry out fresh cotton buds.

Accept reassembled and reinserted in to the dash and powered information technology up but i dont take sat coverage hither where i live, and so it cant practice the setup. So i dont know if its been fully sucesfull or not.

I Matter TO ANYONE THINKING OF ATTEMTING THIS PROCESS.

Very many thank you to all, peculiarly Tim!! I at last managed to remove the trim, extricate the "box", stripped it downward and so spent an hour looking for the laser! Eventually I located it, did the lens cleaner on cotton bud play a joke on, re-assembled eveything and now all is well.

I had this problem and saw assist on another forum which has worked a treat!
Screen wipe sellotaped well to a flat sparse ruler - poke it in the dvd slot and swish it effectually for while. Then put the disc back in (if it won't go in press the eject button over again as the ruler may have made information technology think information technology has a disc) once the disc is in, force a download by pressing Zoom Down and Menu at the same time for a few seconds...the screens that announced, just keep selecting Adjacent. Then switch it all off...hopefully then when you switch it all back on, the lady is dorsum!! I am so thankful for this data it's saved a lot of hassle and a lot of coin! skilful luck!

Bren, lift it up from the bottom, and there are two catches at the top, they simply unlatch/pull out... Did mine well-nigh an hour ago!

Greg'south solution worked for me too!! Although I didn't remove the small screws... I only moved the laser up to the corner [you'll run across a gear bike/screw], by hand, and used a bay wipe on the cease of a cotton bud, and only poked around!!!

OK... only how does one actually remove the SatNav unit of measurement please? I removed the two screws underneath the air vents but cannot see how to get the trim off. I tried to lever it out - gently but withal damaged it - and pulled in every direction just it won't movement. Is in that location something I'm missing, please?

Just want to thank those who suggested the "butter knife and baby wipe" choice (or "bkbw" procedure) for the "error reading navigation dvd disc" problem on my CRV. Works fine now and managed to save expensive repair bill ! Thanks once more

I had the same problem with "dvd disc is reading an mistake" on my 2005 CR-Five. I tried many things (DVD cleaners, service guy, another version of DVD map) only nothing worked.
And one solar day, looking on the internet for this, I saw Graig's post. And I said... why non! With a lot of patience, I followed the instructions exactly (it took like 3h) and now information technology works perfectly. It was just dust on the lens inside the DVD Player.

So, cheers Craig!!! And for the others with the same problem... Information technology WORKS!

Does CRV 2003, 03 reg, Auto Sports, take a DVD thespian(one you tin use to play other DVDs) or its merely there for SatNav DVD? Mine gives me errors when I insert whatsoever other DVD.

I tried a few things (read on as there is deep joy at the end!);

1 - the dvd head cleaner didn't work, in fact it made the problem worse as the unit came up with the 'DVD disc error' bulletin constantly rather than (increasingly) intermittently!!!

2 - butter knife with a lens material and compressed air can shoved in the unit yielded no results for me - however I don't recollect I really knew where the head was located so it was touch and get. The head on my unit of measurement was at the back right equally discovered in 3!

3 - armed with a print out of Craig'southward (December 2008) instructions a couple of screw drivers I spent a good 60 minutes going through the steps and It WORKED! I thing to add is to make sure you eject the disc before you take the unit of measurement out, also don't await to be able to follow the instructions exactly.

CRAIG - cheers, if y'all are ever in S Westward London I'd like to purchase y'all a Beer or two!

Can't thanks all enough. Been having 'DVD disc error' message for months, then it works, and then not. Just tried wipe with plastic pocketknife and seems perfect. A lot of dirt on wipe. Hope it'south fixed.

i accept had the sat nav displaying dvd error for over a twelvemonth tried new discs ,later on reading this blog i went out to it wrapped a wet wipe around a butter knife jiggled information technology virtually in the drive & forced a download & hey presto its working ,thanks guys it actually does work

My 2002 CRv satnav gave up the ghost. I bought a inexpensive dvd cleaning disdc from Tesco and it worked fine after that for 6 months. It then stopped working once again.

This afternoon I removed the unit, followed Craig's instructions in an earlier post (Dec 2008) , cleaned the laser with some glass cleaner on a miracle cloth, and it works fine again.

I did the babe wipe on a butter pocketknife thought thinking hey what accept I got to lose, and what do you lot know it works. the odd occasion it takes a while to boot in, usually find if you start engine and dont movement for a while it picks upwards quicker than on the motility. once it has started first thing in the mean solar day, no problems rest of the 24-hour interval. so hey become a knife babywipe and give information technology ago.

My sat nav was experiencing all the bug listed. I then bought a re-usable two-way DVD lens cleaner from Comet cost £xv followed the instructions and cleaned the lens. I re-inserted the saturday nav disc and the unit rebooted up correctly get-go time and continues to work correctly and appears to be a lot faster.

Tin can someone please post a link to Derek'southward February article equally I cannot find information technology !

My Honda CRV SatNav unit of measurement was showing the dreaded "DVD Disc Is Reading An Error" message then I dis-mantled the unit (as per instructions on this page) and cleaned the laser head with some lens cleaner and a cotton wool bud.

The DVD Fault message has now disappeared and the radio works but the unit volition not budge from the outset-upwardly safety screen. Commonly after about a infinitesimal, OK is displayed on the lesser left of the screen and, subsequently pressing the Enter button, the current location map is displayed. Still, OK is not at present displayed on my unit of measurement but there are no error messages stating NO DVD Disc in bulldoze or DVD Disc error. The DVD disc loads and ejects without a problem just it seems equally though mayhap the bulldoze is not turning.

Does anyone delight accept any ideas ?

I had the same problems on my 03 CRV. I followed Derek'due south article (in Feb) and dismantled the unit of measurement. Its easy and so long as yous're conscientious. The laser is located at i o'clock if you take the lcd screen equally 6 o'clock. The key is that the laser encompass is concave rather and so convex. Therefore it collects dirt and resists cleaning disks. I cleaned all interior with cotton buds and glass cleaner. It was astonishing how much clay was in at that place. Re-assembled and worked perfectly. Expert luck.

Mine has worked intermittently for months, with the periods of non working getting longer & longer. Finally stopped working birthday vi weeks agone. I have just wrapped a butter knife with a babe wipe and stuck it into the DVD slot and moved it around. I wiped the DVD also,but when I went to put the DVD back in the machine would not have it so I pressed squirt once more & it made lots of whirring noises. When it finished information technology accepted the disk & I am amazed to tell y'all all that it worked!!! I was about to buy a tom tom and then figured it did not matter if I damaged this beyond repair. I will be amazed if it continues to work!

we take but had our crv for just over a year when sat nav went on the blink with bulletin disc error on screen. honda have quoted the states £3500 for a new alpine saturday nav (including fitting!!). I am pretty disgusted with this as I have driven Hondas for years and liked their reliability.

Had the same problem with my 52 Reg . It started about half dozen weeks ago with fault reading disc bulletin. I read all the reports on this site (wasn't dauntless enough to try some of them). Used a dvd cleaning disc several times and did a force download every day sometimes up to 10 times a day. No luck with this but I kept trying. Finally I rang Honda and bundled to go and accept them accept it out and send it abroad for repair later on my holiday at a price of £250.
This weekend nosotros went on a mini cruise to Holland and as I had to drive to King George Dock in Hull I borrowed a friends Tom Tom and put this on the dash simply above my own sat nav. Drove to Hull and left my car on the top floor of the car park at the docks. It was there for iii days. When I returned and started to set the Tom Tom for my return journey I noticed that my Honda saturday nav was now working, fix my home address and it has worked always since. Can't empathize how but information technology has. Could it have annihilation to do with the Tom Tom passing any kind of betoken or any of the equipment effectually at the Dock. Don't know just if it happens again I am of for a bulldoze to Hull. (Good excuse for another weekend abroad)

Finally got round to looking at the aforementioned problem on our 2005 CRV. Removed the unit, two screws up under the air vents. Pull out trim and then four bolts retaining the unit of measurement. Pull out unit and remove several plugs.

Remove mounting plates on sides of unit and large black box hanging on these and plugged into back of unit. Removed the rear cover (about 10, screws didn't count) then lifted tiptop off. Removed the screen, four screws. Seperated DVD from CD (another four screws I think). Then I may have started removing unecessary parts and y'all may come across a better way for the next steps. Took the circuit board off the top of the DVD just this is held to the unit of measurement by ribbon cable that can't be detached. Then removed plate on back of DVD held with very small screws and springs. Did not disassemble springs simply gently moved plate upward. So by shining a tourch in the dorsum I could see the laser through gaps in the top of the unit (with previosly mentioned circuit board held to one side). Once the laser was institute it was unproblematic to put some cleaner on a cotton bud and reach it through the open back of the unit.

Reassemble. Then wonder why you have two screws left. Take apart again and so realise you miss counted and they were the ones that held the top on.

Whatsoever way information technology works perfectly now.

My 4 year old CRV was also showing this error message. I tried cleaning disks which didn't piece of work. I took information technology to my local dealer who removed the Sat Nav and sent dorsum to Alpine for repair. I was quoted £250.00 to repair which is shocking for a motorcar of this age. I phoned Honda customer services to complain and they offered to foot the nib. If you lot have this trouble endeavor phoning Honda customer services.

i have just had my 2003 CRV sat nav back from the chief dealers Stock-still ! it as well showed DVD disc read error
i tried the force re set but it did non piece of work as the laser had given upward the ghost, and so I chose to go it stock-still at Brindley Honda in Cannock
Be CAREFULL information technology cost me 200.00 + VAT total 235.00 and im NOT HAPPY ! the disc that came back with the unit was version 2.00 and i sent 2.03 and the door/flap on the front does non open unless you press the open button and pull on the volume knob to access the cd histrion Information technology'Due south GOING Dorsum AFTER xiii DAYS AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!

Mine went pear shaped as well. Tried all the usual, dvd cleaners as well. Nothing worked. Then when cleaning my glasses with Boots Lens Cleaner, I idea why not? Cipher to loose. So I cleaned the dvd with the lens cleaner, then sprayed the cleaner onto the spectacles cloth, got a plastic spoon and put it on the handle. Slowly and carefully, I placed information technology in the crv dvd discontinuity, wiggled it virtually back and forth, left and right several times. Another spray and repeated. And then I put the dvd in and information technology loaded! I did a forcefulness download and it is now back to normal, better than it was in the first place. Not sure how long it will last though - and I however prefer my tomtom, just at least I take the proper display on my CRV now equally information technology was, rather than that stupid bl**dy message dvd error which was really getting to me. Has to be worth a go if nothing else works. I think the motto for this cr*ppy satnav system has to be Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati.

just fixed ours. dvd error kept coming up. Went through the procedure of forcing the dvd to download once more, belongings menu and zoom button for ii seconds and going through the sequence as per instructions I found on another forum. Eventually, a combination of reloading once more and over again, opening and endmost the forepart when error message appeared and ejecting and reloading the disc did the fob. Has been fine for a while at present and is working perfectly, although, I think a garmin or tomtom far superior.

Persevere, preferable to paying £200 which is the price of a new dvd rom and it is not a software problem, I think it is something to practise with the fashion the front of the system opens and closes considering dvd mistake came up even when the door was wide open.

I've just got mine taken out and replaced information technology with a normal head unit and bought a TomTom, which is a 100% better than the Honda version!
Anyone want to by an Alpine SatNav fits about Honda CR-V's!!!

I bought one of those disc,s from e-bay and I get that (mistake reading disc) but later about half hr and restart information technology works ok, this happens every fourth dimension ,,but if i put my original disc in it works ok first time as nothing incorrect, and then I think it is disc trouble,. hope this helps. Hi Colin, I had the same trouble. In the end my CRV went to the local dealer and had the Sabbatum Nav removed and DVD replaced which price £175 although I take heard on other websites that yous tin actually get newer versions off Ebay for just £20.

this is probably a dirty laser im not sure how difficult it is to remove unit of measurement from vehicle but once out as long as ur conscientious and very handy with a screwdriver u can clean the laser lense with a cotton bud and a propierty lens cleaner
